On Tuesday, 16 November 2010, the Mediterranean Diet was included in the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Its inclusion in the Representative List is important, not just for recognition of the importance of this dietary model and the history and tradition it reflects, but also because the Community of Koroni was the one chosen to represent Greece in the cross-border candidacy for inclusion of the Mediterranean Diet in the UNESCO Representative List. As part of the work to landscape the Panagia Eleistria copse and church in Koroni, on Christmas Eve the Administrative Board and Commissioners of the Church of Panagia Eleistria took the initiative to raise 'St Mark's Lion', the symbol of Venice dating from the 15th century from the entrance to the church, and to re-erect it at the same location where it had lain fallen for more than 50 years.
